is not as scary as they say. but the water in the ganga has 14500 fecal coliform bacteria pr cm3 more that it should to be safe to swim in.

that's for you, stupid japanese tourists!! moahahahahaha.

just kidding.
it was probably just as stupid to get a head massage on the ghats. god knows what those hands had touched.

i thought there were jungles in bengal!

well maybe there is. but me and shano haven't seen any yet... we are in calcutta, and as far as jungles are concerned i guess you could say it's a 'concrete jungle' as rahul would put it.
we arrived this morning by train (36 hours) and today we have been around a bit; we have seen the mother teresa's mother home (which is not actually a home for anyone except the mothers) and we were a bit dissappointed because there were no children or anything. however, they gave us directions to go and see the actual homes, so maybe we'll do that tomorrow.
we are leaving tomorrow night to Bodgaya in the middle of Bihar, that should be cool. I have never been to Bihar, I've only heard many bad jokes about its politicians (read:second project week last year) in bodgaya there are buddhist temples everywhere; supposedly there is one for each country that has a major buddhist population. woho, i'm excited.
after that we are heading to varanasi, major pilgrim destination, where we are most probably in for a 'hinduism overdose' as shane put it. oh well. i suppose we will be dirty by then and in need of some purification, be it spiritual or physical.

on monday i had a funny experience. me, sukanya and nikhil were waiting for this restaurant to open, and right next to the restaurant there is a major movie theatre (inox). so we decided to go on a adventure - we snook in through some doors and all of a sudden we found ourselves in the middle of some hindi movie - malamaal weekly, if i remember correctly. then we went outside, and i stepped in dirt. so then i went to the bathroom in mc donalds to clean my feet. with the bumshower.
maybe it doesn't sound like that much of an adventure. actually it looks kind of lame now that i see what i just wrote. anyway, we had fun. and inox hates us now.

that's all. maybe bodgaya will have more to report on than calcutta has so far provided. dhanyavad.

make you wanna move

i'm a rainbow too. or Reign Beau as some people put it.

yesterday i had my english oral exam. i went in, picked my extract and got a bit mad. it happened to be the last chapter of catcher in the rye, chapter 26 if i remember correctly. not very hard, but oh, so annoying.
i wanted god of small things! i wanted god of small things!

the thing is, with catcher in the rye you cannot really say that much that your teacher hasn't already told you. with god of small things you can. and i had SO MUCH to say!

my teacher said it was fine. but they always do - don't want to let you go out of there with the bad feeling of having fucked up. but if i had gotten god of small things it would have been so much more fine.

oh well. on my exam i can choose. i shall show you what god of small things is really all about.
a god of small things-shaped hole in the universe.

in the meantime i am a Reign Beau. I'm sure there's a treasure at the end, but the problem is i can't find it.

curious courier

ahh you know what i just realized. like the second i started writing here. the font i write in is courier, at least before it's published and becomes something else. day before yesterday i sat down to write some competitive scholarship essays and there was this inner voice in me that told me to write in courier. so i did. but then again, courier is not that nice. i think there are two reasons why i wrote in courier anyway:

1) to think i'm writing a blogpost is more comfortable than writing an essay
2) i want this typewriter so badly! maybe courier reminds me of a typewriter kind of font. well it doesn't just remind me, it is.

it is sunday and i have been reading all day. i reexplored my love for the god of small things. ok so it's a bit pretentious now and then but... it makes me think. in a matthew barney kind of way. which is what i wrote in courier about the other day.

tuttei

shane already announced this i guess. but yeah, i got into mica. for all those who do not know what mica is, it is the maryland institute college of art.

i shall right away start applying for scolarships. (in my confusedness i have overlooked the forms earlier. may be due to my hatred of bureaucracy.)

and. we trashed the AQ yesterday. well, trashed it? we danced and made all the classrooms into crazy table and chair installation rooms. quite fun. and we kept sean paul away, that was the best part.

we had to endure a bit of spice girls, but that's kind of on the same level as shane and her skater boi obsession. the songs are so simple you sound like a proper star if you sing them. so in that sense it was good.

i would say the highlights were the interpretive dances performed by my two lovely housemates, shane and else. they were dancing to 'kung-fu fighting' and 'first we take manhattan' respectively. picture else's angry face going: THEN WE TAKE BERLIN!!!

horn ok please

india keeps amazing me. it rained today! it's been a very long time since i last saw rain in this country; it was probably way back in october or something. what a feeling! We got inspired by the freshness of the air and the greenness of the plants, so we decided to make a nice lunch and enjoy the day to the maximum.
result: i can't stand as i had too many burritos. (shane informed me that even if those burritos were the strangest she had ever seen, they definitely were burritos. "they fit the description", she said, "a tortilla with stuff inside.")

the best part was our drinking water from champagne glasses. after performing a play with the striking title "the party" for theatre week we have ended up with a million champagne glasses in our house. we have started a new and sophis' kind of lifestyle i would say.

today:
rain, thunder
last english class of my life
last maths class of my life (i bunked.)
most amazing food in a long time

tonight:
volleyball
yearbook
aq trashing

tomorrow morning:
watching the confused firstyears entering the aq
partying on the roof the whole day.

NO TODAY CLASS, ROHIDAS!

shane, we shall confiscate the iPod or whatever will be playing sean paul tomorrow.
i say it's the time for gravy train.

and ah, i got a strange letter from mica. what to think what to think. i think they shall tell me soon.
these are my recent thoughts:

be perfect, be perfect!

i have a problem with this constant need people have to define things. define this and define that. is catcher in the rye an existentialist work? are nose piercings pretty or not? i am tired of it. let us now sit down and anti-define some things.
relationship does not equal hugging and kissing.
friendship does not equal being friendly.
distance does not equal sadness.
love does not equal hearts and roses.
the pool does not equal water.

and to sum it all up.

the swastika does not equal bad.

i correct myself.

we both have the best time of our week. saturday morning 9:45.

on the inside

it feels like something you just do. go to bssk every week, have fun with the kids and go back home. when i took these pictures today, i realized: it is not something i do. it is something i am. i am someone to these children. i am the person who comes to them every week end and says: hi, dipali, how are you? smile for me!

and then she does. at first when i came, she just cried. now she smiles. we have gotten to know each other. she is 12 years old and she cannot speak. but today she told me: eooooooooo! (i interpret that as hello)

the good part is i think we both feel as good.

4) go home on a bumpu country road

5) watch oceans twelve

6) fall asleep before the knock out effect is gone

hvilken dag er det i dag?

a fine day. i have finished all my work. i never thought this would happen, but all of a sudden it has and to be quite honest it has left me a bit puzzled.

what do i do now? i guess the answer from any teacher of mine would be: "start reding for your exams". relax. i will read for my exams. but now is the time to lean back and relax. enjoy the rest of theatre week.

sameera is here, nico sent me and email and all is good. i'm just looking forward to seeing hari and eyewitness tonight.

oh and my play. how was it? i shall let you know. but now i'm going to watch a movie.
